I was listening in on Episode 46 and your response to the listener who was looking for a modern ergonomic sporting rifle optic that will be effective at 25 and 250 yards.

In my opinion, the answer is not really that hard. Simply look at a variable power scope with adjustable turrets. It is quite easy to simply dial in your drop at various ranges so you can hit bang on point of aim at any distance. Heck, you can even use fixed power for the same thing.

Last season I competed in Service Rifle events using a Falcon Menace 1.5-5x. These events featured target engagements from 10 to 500 yards/metres. Adjusting the scope for drop at each range was no problem at all. I simply kept the scope adjustments for various ranges marked on my rifle. That is about a $500 optic here in Canada, less in your neck of the woods.

This season I have changed to a Elcan 3.0 which is a fixed 3x with adjustable turrets. So far it has worked in short range competition and is easily zeroed at 100 yards. I’ll find out how I like it at 500 yards in April.

There are many manufacturers that make variable powered optics with adjustable turret such as Nikon, Burris, Vortex, Leupold, Bushnell etc, etc for just about any price point you want to go for.

Plus, these tend to have etched reticles so battery power is not REQUIRED (though many have illuminated reticules for low light scenarios).
Basically there are a lot of good options and having a optic that is good from 25-250 yards is not really that hard to find.

Ian:  Hey love your show I listen t o it at work at it helps to pass the day. Was a little disappointed in you LEO duty gun episode great for maybe a detective but not to much helpful to a patrol officer. When I worked patrol in CA I used a Glock 21 and later a 21sf in a serpa lv 3 with out light and later with the blackhawk light and loved it. Also I kept a cold steel push knife behind my mags to be used to help with weapon retention. Also loved the God and Guns episode and also great to hear the proclamation of faith was great good to see not being ashamed of faith I know Jesus has saved my butt more than once keep up the great job guys.

JT:  I think you guys are spoiled from living in a more gun friendly environment. I’m in Seattle and the gun ranges and prices are ridiculous. I went to the Kenmore Gun Range in Bothel, WA a few weeks ago (it’s the only range that allows you to shoot rifles without purchasing a $400+ yearly membership) and they only allow you to load one bullet in your rifle at a time and you are required to shoot from a seated position. When I saw the sign saying “remember, only load one bullet at a time” I thought it was a joke, but it was a horrible horrible reality.

I love the show. I just discovered it last week and have been listening intently ever since.
